About .no domains

All .no domains have the same requirements, restrictions, and supported features, such as registrations and renewals, transfers, and DNS.

Registrations and renewals

Registration of .no domains is limited to Norwegian residents. Registrants must provide a personal identification code and signed declaration of eligibility at the time of registration. Individual registrants can register a maximum of 5 .no domains.

Required: Email verification must be completed to activate new .no registrations by following the instructions sent to the registrant email address, otherwise the domain will be suspended and may be deleted by the registry.

New registrations

  • Registration length: 1-1 years
  • Must use: 1-63 characters
  • Can use: Letters (a-z characters), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (except in the 3rd and 4th characters of the domain name)
  • Cannot use: Special characters (e.g., & or #)
  • IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names): Supported

Renewals

  • Renewal length: 1-1 years
  • You can manually renew your domain up to 30 days before expiration. We'll attempt to auto-renew 19 days before expiration, and we'll park the domain after the first failed billing attempt. Redemption fees may be applied 1 day after expiration. Check out the standard expiration timeline for details on what happens after expiration.

  • Must use: 2-8 nameservers
  • DNSSEC: Supported
  • IPv4: Supported
  • IPv6: Not Supported

.no domains must use authoritative nameservers. This means the domain must already be configured with a valid DNS zone on the intended nameservers before they can be assigned to your .no domain.
