About .so domains

All .so domains have the same requirements, restrictions, and supported features, such as registrations and renewals, transfers, and DNS.

Note: Secureserver.net Domain Name Web Hosting is no longer accepting new registrations or transfers of .so domains. Existing .so domain registrations can still be renewed.

Registrations and renewals

Anyone can register .so, .com.so, .net.so, and .org.so domains on a first-come, first-served basis.

New registrations

  • Registration length: 1-1 years
  • Must use: 1-63 characters
  • Can use: Letters (a-z characters), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (except in the 3rd and 4th characters of the domain name)
  • Cannot use: Special characters (e.g., & or #)
  • IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names): Not Supported

Renewals

  • Renewal length: 1-1 years
  • You can manually renew your domain anytime before expiration. We'll attempt to auto-renew 19 days before expiration, and we'll park the domain after the first failed billing attempt. Redemption fees may be applied 5 days before expiration. Check out the standard expiration timeline for details on what happens after expiration.
