About .tw Domains
TW.nic is the sponsor and The-Online.com Registry is our backend provider for the country-code top-level domain name (ccTLD) .tw extension that represents Taiwan.
Who can register .tw domains?
Anyone can register .tw, .idv.tw, and .com.tw domain names.
- .tw: Intended for Taiwan businesses or individuals
- .idv.tw: Intended for individuals
- .com.tw: Intended for commercial entities
Note: Secureserver.net Domain Name Web Hosting no longer offers new registrations or transfers of .org.tw domains.
Registration restrictions
When registering a .tw domain, you must follow specific requirements.
- Must use: 2 - 63 Characters
- Can use: Letters (a-z characters), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (except in the 1st or last characters of the domain name)
- Cannot use: Special characters (e.g., & and #)
- IDNs: Supported (Chinese) on .tw domain extension only
Features
- Registration length: 1-10 years
- Renewal length: 1-10 years
- Your .tw, .idv.tw, and .com.tw domains renew before the expiration date. If auto-renew is turned on, we'll attempt renewal 40 days prior to the domain's expiration date. If the first attempt fails, we'll continue attempting renewal multiple times prior to the domain's expiration date.
- If we cannot auto-renew the domain name and you do not manually renew it by 4 days prior to the expiration date, you can attempt to recover your domain with any applicable fees.
- .org.tw renewals require additional documentation. Please contact customer support for assistance.
- Backorders: Not supported
- Transfers to Secureserver.net Domain Name Web Hosting: Supported
- Transfers away from Secureserver.net Domain Name Web Hosting: Supported
- Transfer Lock: Supported
- .tw, .idv.tw, and .com.tw domains must be transferred to a Neustar-accredited registrar.
- To transfer your .org.tw domain to another registrar, additional documentation is required. Please contact customer support for assistance.
- Transfers to another Secureserver.net Domain Name Web Hosting account: Supported
- Domain Privacy: Not supported
- Domain Protection: Not supported
- Contact Updates: Supported

- Can use: IPv4, DNSSEC
- Cannot use: IPv6
