About .vg domains
All .vg domains have the same requirements, restrictions, and supported features, such as registrations and renewals, transfers, and DNS.
Note: Secureserver.net Domain Name Web Hosting is no longer accepting new registrations or transfers of .vg domains. Existing .vg domain registrations can still be renewed.
Registrations and renewals
Anyone can register .vg domains on a first-come, first-served basis.
New registrations
- Registration length: 1-1 years
- Must use: 1-63 characters
- Can use: Letters (a-z characters), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (except in the 3rd and 4th characters of the domain name)
- Cannot use: Special characters (e.g., & or #)
- IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names): Not Supported
Renewals
- Renewal length: 1-1 years
- You can manually renew your domain . We'll attempt to auto-renew , and we'll park the domain after the first failed billing attempt. Redemption fees may be applied . Check out the standard expiration timeline for details on what happens after expiration.
Features
- Transfers to Secureserver.net Domain Name Web Hosting: Not Supported
- Transfers away from Secureserver.net Domain Name Web Hosting: Supported
- Contact customer support to get an authorization code before initiating the transfer with the new registrar. Domain Privacy may be removed when an authorization code is requested.
- Transfers to another Secureserver.net Domain Name Web Hosting account: Supported
- Some contact info cannot be changed when transferring .vg domains to another Secureserver.net Domain Name Web Hosting account.
- Domain Privacy: Not Supported
- Domain Protection: Not Supported
- Contact Updates: Supported
- Contact customer support to update the registrant info on your .vg domain.
DNS requirements
- Must use: 1-4 nameservers
- DNSSEC: Not Supported
- IPv4: Supported
- IPv6: Not Supported
.vg domains must use authoritative nameservers. This means the domain must already be configured with a valid DNS zone on the intended nameservers before they can be assigned to your .vg domain.
Cancellation requirements
Cancel the .vg domain in your Secureserver.net Domain Name Web Hosting account and then contact customer support to complete the process.
